Quick thoughts on the game last night (Cavs/Orlando):

1. I emailed the NBA yesterday about terrible officiating and I have to say that yesterday seemed better in this regard. That said I also may be somewhat de-sensitized to what terrible officiating is these days.

2. Stan Van Gundy: coach better. How do you not get the ball to superman more!?!? He was killing them and then didn't seem to get the ball for the last 5 minutes until he fouled out.

3. LeBron: wow. Eye of the motherfucking tiger. Wow. To steal from the round mound of rebound and the crew though: I am worried about you having to be involved in the last 32 (33?) points. I mean that is amazing dude, but I am worried that you are going to wear yourself out a bit and putting on too many miles.

Separately it struck me last night that the man and the memories I truly love, of Jordan dropping bombs, may never be replaced or supplanted for me, but I see a high likelihood that LeBron will be Jordan to our kids. If the NBA can figure their shit out and get officiating right that is.

Some time ago (before you were born) on January 21, 2009 I wrote a little something with you in my heart:

I have some time today so I wanted to quickly write you and if I could I would love to read this to our little daughter, but I don’t want to bore her (or you!) Here is a great video (a little more personal view) of the speech. As you know I told you that he didn’t necessarily have his A game yesterday, but who has their A game everyday? Especially for someone whose life has now been flipped upside down. No more little 15 minute walks during lunch like he is used to. No more quick trips to the park to play basketball. So many sacrifices by him to… hopefully… help us.

Call me cynical and jaded if you will but I will say that given what happened in 2006 when we overwhelmingly voted in Democrats to end a war, it hurt me and cut at things in me directly. I sincerely hope it is not the same case this time for me and for our daughter and for us. And frankly, to end the cynicism in this note, some of the holes dug by the out of date and lost previous administration may be difficult if not impossible to dig out of in the short term. Alas.

We take a fresh breath of air today and slowly start to blow out the old cynicism and hurt feelings. We move on as we always have with the country and society we dream of in our hearts. But like the new President always talks about though folks rarely mention it as one of his major themes: we do not walk alone. We have so many with us. Alex is here. Suzanne is here. Adrienne is here. I can feel them. I want not to let them down and eventually I want our daughter and our grandchildren to say: we need to carry on for our ancestors and for those that did the hard thing and turned things around for us especially when things looked so bleak.

“…every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents.”

Now allow me to point out the obvious: are these guys to be trusted? I mean I hope things end this year as much as anyone, but sorry to be skeptical of 'economists' as a group these days.

You have quite a mommy do you know that?  Last night I am not sure she barely slept a wink trying to make you happy.  She took some time to write you.  She took you on a walk.  She showed her extremely patient side.  You should feel lucky, in your little world, to be so loved.

But daddy is no slouch either.  Do you know how much he loves you?  Granted that mommy does a lot more of the difficult work these days, but daddy is plotting and planning for you and quietly helping to form you into the best little girl you can possibly be.

When I look at you I am often reminded of a song that I like and some lyrics I really like:

'I looked into my daughter's eyes
And realize that I'ma learn through her
The Messiah, might even return through her
If I'ma do it, I gotta change the world through her'

But enough of that for now let's just enjoy our time together and know that you and me getting in our little pool together yesterday (we have a picture for you) was just another incredible highlight in my life.  Thank you to you my little baby for being such a blessing in our lives.

Hi Audrey - It's mommy. We just got back from a nice afternoon walk around the neighborhood with Abby and your daddy suggested I write you a quick note. We've had a great weekend with you relaxing and spending time with you together. This note is a good idea because on our walk I was thinking about some of the wonderful things you are already doing at just 6 weeks and how much I enjoy seeing your grow and change. The best thing (in my opinion) that you do right now is give us those great big, gummy smiles. Who knew that a little smile could bring me such intense emotion? You can make me cry and smile and crack up with those smiles at the same time. Seeing you feel happy makes me feel so good and overwhelms me with how much I love you. Another impressive thing you do that isn't quite so great, but still makes me laugh and cry is your poops. You've made Abby bark on more than one more occasion by startling her with your impressive gas. Daddy labels them with different alarms... 1 alarm is a basic diaper change and 4 alarm requires a bath and some serious laundry. I'm sure before we know it you will be doing more wonderful things, but for now I am enjoying every minute with you.
All My Love,
Mommy

Arianna Huffington: Obama Calls for An Extreme Makeover of Our Culture: Are the Credit Card Companies Listening? [Updated]

Arianna Huffington: Obama Calls for An Extreme Makeover of Our Culture: Are the Credit Card Companies Listening? [Updated]: "Heading into Epoch B, and seeing the devastation all around us here at the tail end Epoch A, can anyone -- other than the banking lobby, that is - argue that we shouldn't?

The moment to act is now. Inflection points in history don't come along very often."

Respectfully Arianna it is much more than just the banking lobby fighting against our progress as a nation. It is also the companies that control our media, our energy supply and all those making so much money and have amassed so much power given the current status quo.

Things I learn from basketball:

Sometimes the glorious move is not the best.  For instance yesterday as much as I like taking the final shot of a game to win it when you are double teamed it is not the best.  So I passed it to the man wearing one of the most unique outfits I have ever seen and he nailed it and game was over.

Don't always go for the glorious.  Sometimes the assist and being a helper is the best bet.

I can't help but think, and hope, that we are headed for 'A Few Good Men' ending to this one.  Seems we are dealing with a man who is definetely toeing the line of being a sociopath.

Long time coming:

'President Obama’s top antitrust official announced on Monday that the administration would restore an aggressive enforcement policy against corporations that use their market dominance to elbow out competitors or to keep them from gaining market share.'

Kudo's to them for taking to move.

here's the deal all ye of religion:

i aint hatin. or at least not trying to and i will tell you why: i understand pretty much trying to devine that from a perfect one> i understand yo trying to devine something from an ancient text (ok, previous part written with Audrey in my one hand so now to some real typing with, like capitals and whatnot):

I wish I felt like I had the time.

Here is what I know... or feel at least: we have something as close to perfect as I can think of right here that we need to try and save so it saves us and so on. There is, to me, a biblical struggle going on right now. Now I understand others don't understand my passion for the issue or perhaps my perspective, but hear me out.

In religion one does seem to want to try and please a God. Well, what I am saying I understand that, but that, for me, there is something else in the name of 'God' and it is our earth. Our home. I guess I try and think, most days, what can I do to help the earth and be it's good disciple and I don't feel like I have time right now to worry about what a possible perfect divine being out there might want from me*

*I am willing to admit that a 'perfect divine being' out there exists. I will say this as well as saying: I have no idea how our earth came to being itself and it may very well be that a perfect divine being was the creator as I have no other good conclusion nor have I had any other good explanation for this seemingly unanswerable question. By way of saying: if I one day feel, God willing (is that irony?), like our earth is completely on the right path (smart population levels for one) I will begin to occupy my mind with that which is beyond this amazing, diverse, unbelievably incredible gift I feel, see, smell, take in every day beneath my feet and all around me.
