hurt
original / quiet / live, self destruct

i hurt myself today
to see if i still feel
i focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but i remember everything

what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt

i wear this crown of shit
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
i cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
i am still right here

what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt

if i could start again
a million miles away
i would keep myself
i would find a way

Weather: Vero Beach: hard hit, under water

Saturday, September 25, 2004

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Have you not picked it up all ready? Have you not seen? It is not immediately apparent, but like Mos Def and Talib say, 'The hard headed always gotta feel it to believe it.'

Are you one of those? Or have you opened your eyes and your heart to the fact that no longer is it about what you want or even what we want, but what us needs. Do you believe it? I hope that you do. We need you, we need all of us. It will not be an easy time, that is for sure, but hopefully, together, we can figure this problem out. God bless the earth and all the people and things on it. Love.

MSNBC - Musharraf: Iraq war complicates Middle East

CITIZEN-TIMES.com: U.S. has both a moral and practical interest in getting Haiti on its feet: "The death toll from Tropical Storm Jeanne may reach 2,000 and hungry residents are rioting in the northern port city of Gonaives. The government has neither the people nor the means of getting relief where it is needed. Armed gangs control much of the countryside and the urban poor remain resentful that their champion, former President Jean- Bertrand Aristide, was driven from power in February."

News: "No state has been struck by four hurricanes in one season since Texas in 1886. Jeanne could turn into the latest in a devastating chain of hurricanes that have rattled southwest and central Florida (Charley), the state's midsection (Frances) and Florida's Panhandle (Ivan). Combined, the storms have caused billions of dollars of damage and at least 70 deaths in Florida. "

Ames Tribune: "But all tomatoes aside, global warming is real. The speaker, Gene Takle, professor of atmospheric science and professor of agricultural meteorology at Iowa State University, presented research documenting the correlation between carbon dioxide concentration and average temperature over many thousands of years. Every model he presented showed that since the dawn of the industrial age, the concentration of carbon dioxide has been grown exponentially. Already - vis a vis Iowa's growing season or the fact that Lake Mendota in Madison, Wis., is clear of ice for an addition month each year - the carbon dioxide trend is reflected in average temperatures."

The Hindu News Update Service: "Beijing, Sept. 23. (PTI): Madoi, a picturesque county in western China, has emerged as the worst example of the effect of global warming and environmental degradation as the tiny hamlet has not received power for the last eight months due to depletion of water level. "

It is there, as it is in your backyard.

I have worked throughout my life to be in touch with myself and our world and everything on it. To limited success sometimes for I still feel myself slipping out of touch now and again. When I have been recently though, when I have felt that feeling, it says our time of using and abusing the planet is over, or we are.

"W. Takes on Global Warming" by Gregg Easterbrook

This guy is funny, and off his rocker.

New York Post Online Edition: commentary: "The hot rumor in New York political circles has Roger Stone, the longtime GOP activist, as the source for Dan Rather's dubious Texas Air National Guard 'memos.'
The irony would be delicious, since Rather became famous confronting President Nixon, in whose service a very young Stone became associated with political 'dirty tricks.'
Reached at his Florida home, Stone had no comment. "

MSNBC - Halliburton is a handy target for Democrats The Energy Infrastructure Planning Group turned to a familiar resource: Halliburton Co., the global oil services company where Dick Cheney was chief executive until a couple of weeks after he was nominated for vice president."

'Handy target for Democrats' eh? How about 'Handy target for taxpayers'?

For I have had to hear and listen to endless bs about Pete Rose and his betting on his team and maybe even betting against his team. Well, you know what? I couldn't care less about this because IT AIN'T MY MONEY. Of course, I am concerned about the 'integrity of the game' but I will tell you I am much more concerned about Cheney betting on Halliburton WITH ALL OUR MONEY. Wake up white people (shout out to my man Howard).

Anderson Cooper, you edgy cool fella, you? Of course not. Because we've come to regard the crisis of climate change as politically debatable rather than as an issue of scientific fact. Mention it, and somebody will call your boss and demand that a marionette-scientist in the employ of the coal companies be put on the air to argue that it's all just, you know, one of those things. Don't worry about driving your SUVs. Build some more luxury condos on the Gulf Coast in Alabama. The non-partisan Committee For An Honest Climate (formerly d/b/a Amoco) says it's worth the risk."

Deep feelings are always the hardest to talk about. Words escape me. Like after a hard, burning bike ride and I can't talk due to breathing so hard, after putting in so much- it is like that.

It is not that I don't want to. It is not that. It is hard to remain a man and be all these things I want to be, and share in a meaningful way. Like a dyslexic trying to read, the words get all screwed up.

I will tell you there is love there. It is deep. And there is confusion. And there is dedication. Loyalty, responsibility. Personal demands. Relationship wants. Desires. Even still, lust. There is a simple mind getting many emotions screwed up.

For now, remember the love and the dog like loyalty. These are the things I want to get across. They will be there for all of time.

Another Day in Baghdad. | Metafilter

Sometimes I get chills reading this stuff. I feel very bad for what is being done in the name of America.

In the top of the post we read about Bush, Clinton, FBI, God etc etc. Interestingly somebody forgets corporations and their political and monetary interests ; expecially their culture which places money and economic interest above everything including human life. I think economic interests (not only but also U.S. based ones) and their impersonifications definitely played a role in 9/11, most probably an indirect one. We shouldn't only look at the chain of causes that lead one person to "pull the trigger" but also to the chain of conditions that helped form the causes of the decision to pull the trigger.

Good point. Wish more people started talking about this, or started to truly explore us and our system. Listening, deliberate introspection and reasoned, wise response seem to be the solution to all of our challenges. Too bad that we too often just get the 'response' part...

My one loyal reader (me) noticed something today... I haven't written in with a bitchy email about work in some time. Went back reviewing some old posts just now and got to thinking about how much better I feel and, maybe?, come across since the departure from the big machine. It is a great feeling, to really feel like your hunch was right and true and working out as you said that it might. But all could change couldn't it? Life is such a funny thing.

Pursuing a couple of options these days for Nathan moving forward. The first, refering to myself only in the third person. Nathan thinks it gives him street cred. Other options include a software company and a renovation/construction company. Ideally, would like to do both and try to stack some paper but not sure if that is realistic. The thing is, the software company and Nathan deal with knowns and we know where each other stand- Nathan can't say the same thing about the construction company. It is a long story, but suffice it to say the situation is surrounded with not a lot of detail (e.g. how much am I going to make if I do come work for you on Friday??). Nathan is a detail man. Let us talk day to day.

Funny thing about being out of work though, as I am sure you know. It ain't the place to be, even if you are comfortable. Let me tell you what I mean and I think it boils down to the misery loves company thing. Put shortly, people in general cannot or will not allow themselves to be happy for me. Speaking for myself I know how this feels. Of course I was jealous when I would have to go to work one day and my friend in Berkeley got to chill or do whatever, but I don't think I wished ill on him or took it as a bad thing for him or me, just a bit jealous was all. I think some of my friends and people I know are like this as well- I think angel is. Some others are not and I wonder about that. There are larger questions involved here for me too. Questions like, 'Why would someone not want another to be happy or to smile?' Really... why? Why are people so taken back when I truly just offer them a smile and say 'Hello, how is your day going?' Goodness and happiness is out there for us all.

Good night this fair night in Cali. Nathan offers much love.

Come again? Hands up those who knew the name of Fallujah on 11 September 2001. Or Samarra. Or Ramadi. Or Anbar province. Or Amarah. Or Tel Afar, the latest target in our 'war on terror'' although most of us would find it hard to locate on a map (look at northern Iraq, find Mosul and go one inch to the left). Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive. "

the Face of Tomorrow: the Human Face of Globalization, photographs by Mike Mike

The New York Times > Opinion > No Accountability on Abu Ghraib: "Mr. Rumsfeld gave President Bush the legal advice that led to the president's famous memo declaring that the United States could, at his discretion, suspend the Geneva Conventions in the 'global war on terror,' and that prisoners with the newly minted designation of 'unlawful combatants' were not entitled to the conventions' protections. Mr. Rumsfeld authorized the use of brutal interrogation techniques at the prison in Guantnamo Bay, some of which he later rescinded. His war plans left the Army without enough forces to face the uprising that followed Mr. Bush's ludicrously premature 'mission accomplished' photo-op. Those policies - which commanders were afraid to challenge - left 97 untrained military police guarding some 7,000 Iraqis at Abu Ghraib who were not considered prisoners of war. "

Wanted to write a little shout out to my big cuz, angel's dad and a little cat named Dyna. I'm thinking about you. I'm also thinking about you down there in Florida, as so many are. The New York Times > International > Europe > The President: Putin Says Russia Faces Full 'War' to Divide Nation: "Although he made a broad appeal for national unity in the face of terror, he did not mention the war in Chechnya, a struggle linked to all of the attacks that have roiled the country. That suggested that he would not consider changing the Kremlin's strategy there, despite years of war and atrocities that have left the Chechen people embittered and the republic ruined."

By the new year, many situations will require your attention, and you may choose to take stock of your life. You should develop new motivations as this year unfolds. Opportunities to build up a nest egg will present themselves over the coming year. As fresh enthusiasms grow, you will have ample funds to test new paths. "

What Use is Religion?: "Thousands, perhaps millions, of people have died, often accepting torture first, for loyalty to one religion against a scarcely distinguishable alternative. 'Woke up quick, at about noon. Just thought I had to be in Compton soon.'

God, I love E. Miss ya buddy.

Was reading that article by my girl Q, pretty interesting and I respect her for bringing up the point, even if she is partisan. One part struck me about the article- it was when she was talking about why folks wouldn't want to fight for the 'country' right now. One reason was because those in power seem to be self serving and not fighting on behalf of the country.

I have to agree with her. I know from my own perspective that I would not want to fight in Iraq right now. The reasons are numerous, but the overriding one is that I feel no passion in my heart against the Iraqis. I don't think I could kill anyone over there not knowing who is the enemy really and not understanding the conflict fully. To my mind it really seems like a resource struggle. These are not wrong, but can be handled in such a better way. There is so much dirty, oily history in the region that it is hard to make out who is the enemy from here, in America. Can you imagine what it must be like from between the two rivers?

My point is that I respect those who are over there. I know that they are doing a tough job and may have doubts or may be absolutely sure about their mission, for it takes all types here in America, and are doing their work admirably. I wouldn't be able to participate in this struggle as it is- call me a objector or pussy or sissy or wise?- but I do plan to be there for other stuggles. I raise my hand with passion.

'Can I get an eye open up? Eazy locin' up smokin' up much dust like a nut what give it up for the real stuff.'

MSNBC - Leaving on a Jet Plane: "The VVAF poll found that only 43 percent of draft-age Americans would be willing to comply if the draft were reinstated. Perhaps even more surprising, it found that fewer than half the parents surveyed would want their child to serve. The ruling argument is, and always has been, service to country. But that was when more Americans saw the decisions of their leaders as serving their country, too, not as self-serving."
