Bloggermann: Feeling morally, intellectually confused? - Bloggermann - MSNBC.com: "Thus, forgive me, for reading Murrow, in full:
'We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty,' he said, in 1954. 'We must remember always that accusation is not proof, and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law.
'We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men, not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were for the moment unpopular.'"

Albert Einstein Quotes - The Quotations Page: "My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind. -Albert Einstein"

On another note, check out 'When the Levees Broke' if you have not all ready. It hurts, but what a well done documentary. Amazing look into a terrible American tragedy.

Anything else we can help pay for for you or your friends Mr. Resident?

Downward Mobility - New York Times: "Even the best number from yesterdays Census Bureau report for 2005 is bad news for most Americans. It shows that median income rose 1.1 percent last year, to $46,326, the first increase since it peaked in 1999. But the entire increase is attributable to the 23 million households headed by someone over age 65. So the gain is likely from investment income and Social Security, not wages and salaries. "

Uh, wow, that is a big damn hurricane.

Andrew Sullivan The Daily Dish: The Alleged UK Terror Plot: "I wish I didn't find these questions popping into my head. But the alternative is to trust the Bush administration."

While he has been there, done that I thankfully have not - so much. I will admit that after 9/11 I did have hope. I thought things might change, but my cynical self emerged quickly there-after.

My cynical self could not help but think, as I was looking at the WTC hole in early July, what the heck happened? What is the truth? Why did WTC7 come down?

Wanted: a practical guide to saving the warming planet - Sunday Times - Times Online: "We need government to unleash the private sector to protect the country and landscape we love, the seasons we remember, the places we call home. If that isn't an essential conservative calling, what is? "

So nice, blogged twice.

Wanted: a practical guide to saving the warming planet - Sunday Times - Times Online: "Another summer as hot as this one and Al Gore will become the next president of the United States. Yes, of course, one broiled July and sauteed August do not a global warming make. But it does concentrate the mind wonderfully on the claims that a hotter climate is already here, that it is closely related to fast-rising carbon dioxide levels and that this should not be a political but an empirical question. "

Ah, of course.

'Also, if the liquid could be explosive, why are you dumping it in a crowd? Assuming they're collecting lots of terrorist toothpaste and shampoo, isn't it dangerous to collect it all in a big bag like that? For that matter, why allow it on the plane at all? It's not safe in the cabin but it's safe in the cargo hold? Maybe people should be flown with no luggage or anything, maybe just a sterile body stocking, and all the belongings can be shipped separately on an unmanned drone.'

Mr Clicked
, I think you are onto something here. Think about it more and get back to me. I will give you a hint: perhaps this is less about safety than it is about _____.

ESR April 11, 2005 Interview with Brooke Allen: "I want to conserve the right of labor to organize; I want to conserve the wall of separation between Church and State established by our Founding Fathers; I want to conserve the character of our countryside and towns and to limit the hideous sprawl that is swallowing the countryside; I want above all to preserve the environment, or what's left of it."

Interesting random find.

Gore isn't quite as green as he's led the world to believe - Yahoo! News: "Maybe our very existence isn't threatened"

Boy, what to say about this piece. Joke is the first word that comes to mind.

Further though, I would like to say I would love to see Gore living like Woody somewhere in Hawaii, but I think his overall point might be that living Earth First is very difficult and we could all do more to do that. I think he is doing his part by using his popularity and voice for this cause.

Peter, what are you doing besides throwing partisan stones?

In Entourage, loyalty triumphs over big bucks - Television - MSNBC.com

Interesting analysis. I just like it cause of the haha's.

Hirsh: Can the U.S. Afford to Stay in Iraq? - Newsweek The War in Iraq - MSNBC.com: "Now Rumsfeld and Bush, by pre-emptively launching a war, have undercut that lesson. Until recent events, the American and Israeli armies were generally judged the most advanced in the world. In the Arab world they were seen as all but invulnerable. Today the failures of those armies against Islamist guerrillas in Iraq and Lebanon have conveyed the very opposite of the message Bush wanted to send. If the current situation continues, with America bogged down in Iraq and Israel mired in its fight against Hizbullah, then the presumption of U.S-Israeli military invincibility--which has kept Arab extremists in place for decades--will be exposed as a myth. That could embolden Islamist radicals for a long time to come. Unless he is prepared to spend a lot more on his military, defense analysts say, the president who so badly wanted to project strength will be remembered mainly for projecting weakness."

Well, I for one all ready believe that the resident and his puppet masters have all ready displayed and projected their weakness. But on another subject, do we really think that spending more money might be the solution? We all ready spend more than the top 10 (20, 100?) armies in the world.... how much more can one spend and realize: maybe it is not about the spend? Maybe this equation comes down to more (less?) than money.

No 9/11 deception, watchdog says - U.S. Security - MSNBC.com: "There is no evidence defense officials intentionally misled the Sept. 11 commission when they gave mistaken accounts about actions at the time of the terror attacks, the Pentagon's watchdog agency said."

NOTHING TO SEE HERE. Please move on. Do not ask about WTC7.

Taller mountains a result of global warming - LiveScience - MSNBC.com: "The mountains in Europe are growing taller and global warming is partly responsible, scientists say."

Ok, global warming is a serious problem, but I personally would appreciate scientists focusing at this point as to what individuals could do and getting that message out as opposed to researching mountain growth rates. I suppose that is not the exact right place for a scientist to insert him/herself, but I just wish someone would and why not the scientists who are so in touch with this problem?

? Jurassic 5 f/ Dave Matthews - Work it Out Lyrics

Wednesday, August 02, 2006

ESPN.com: Page 2 : Larry Legend vs. Big Papi: "The best moments of the Bird Era were how other players reacted to him: Like the Hawks high-fiving on the bench during his 60-point game, or Walton skipping into the clubhouse and happily singing 'Larry Bird! Larry Bird!' after Bird's four 3s to complete the Bucks sweep in 1986, or McHale shaking his head in disbelief at the tail end of the Bird-'Nique shootout in '88 and smiling like a little kid, or even a wide-eyed Xavier McDaniel telling the story about Bird telling the X-Man during the end of a Celts-Sonics game, 'I'm making the game-winner, and I'm shooting it from THAT spot right there,' then doing exactly that."

SG, the man.
