Here we sit on this day of our lord just past 4/20/2008 and, wow, it feels a lot like last year doesn't it but maybe just a big more quiet, slow, status quo'ish? Just keeping on keeping on baby. Don't rock the boat.

If the words are not coming through clear enough today I will let you know: I am feeling a bit punchy. Maybe its this goddamn Monday. Maybe its this goddamn cube. Maybe its just me being punchy because well, why not?

Frustration boiled up a couple of times this past week I will let you know. Frustrated that one of my smart co-workers seems to feel like the planet is doing just fine and all we need to do is make everyone rich. You don't smell that bad air and feel that bad feel? Oh well. Mother nature will visit us all soon. We (you?) like to believe we are smarter than that which created us and mothered us to this place we are now, but we aren't of course. We can't ever figure it out but we should be deferential and do our VERY best right to lessen our impact on our mother and this godly figure beneath our feet? Perhaps. Otherwise you get snow in April in Seattle like that one movie showed? Oh, wait.

More frustrating though was family. It always is isn't it? Not to belabor the point but 1. Folks, get yourself something to occupy yourselves. You delving into every little emotional angle of every interaction is tiring and a waste of your time. 2. Brother, grow up and become a man. It has been too long.

Work and workflow here has also been a *ahem* challenge, but I also know that the issue is partly me. I want us to be too perfect with our projects and too well thought out... business moves quicker than that but at the same time I would have liked us to have a bit of balance between these two things. Hopefully we are and I am just not seeing it.

On a lighter note, the wifey is the bomb y'all. We had a great weekend and a great time together over the past week. She is a light in a sometimes dull status quo grayness.

I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image.

An open letter to Charlie Gibson and George Stephanapoulos | Philadelphia Daily News | 04/17/2008

An open letter to Charlie Gibson and George Stephanapoulos | Philadelphia Daily News | 04/17/2008: "But I'm not ready to make nice. What I just watched was an outrage. As a journalist, you appeared to confirm all of the worst qualities that cause people to hold our profession in such low esteem, especially your obsession with cornering the candidates with lame 'trick' questions and your complete lack of interest or concern about substance -- or about the American people, or the state of our nation. You embarassed some good people who work at ABC News -- for example, the journalists who worked hard to break this story just last week -- and you embarassed yourselves. The millions of people who watched the debate were embarassed, too -- at the state of our political discourse, and what it has finally become, at long last."

Almost sorry I missed this the (really!?) 26th debate of the democratic season. Almost.

ESPN Page 2 - Simmons: NBA MVP breakdown, Part II: "The best word for him would either be 'contagious' or 'selfless.' By Thanksgiving, the entire team was emulating him. Every time a young player got carried away with himself during a game -- like the time Perkins started going for his own stats, or the time Rondo snapped at his coach -- KG was there to set him straight and scare the living hell out him. Every time one of his teammates was intimidated, KG had his back. Every time one of his teammates got knocked down, KG rushed over to pick him up; eventually, four teammates were rushing over to help that fifth guy up, and that's just the way it goes with the team now. Every time an opponent kept going for a shot after a whistle, KG defiantly blocked the shot just out of principle, and eventually, everyone started doing it. No shots after the whistle against the Celtics. That was the rule. It was a series of little things, baby steps if you will, but they added up to something much bigger."

Love Garnett. Love him and the MVP award would again be in good hands with him but I am happy I got his Western All Star jersey last year - he will always be ours Sports Guy.

I knew I liked this guy for reasons beyond the cut of his gib.

Seriously it is cool to think that one day we might have a president who, like me, sorts his problems out and gets his head clear by shooting the basketball and playing some pickup basketball. Portends good things for us all methinks because let's be honest: our next president needs to be someone who can build relationships when there might be none now or, even worse, a hateful relationship well established. Someone who has played pickup basketball knows all about this sort of thing. It starts when you walk onto the courts and never ends throughout the whole game and even after. Go Barack.

I guess my own question is if I have learned more about myself and other people by playing basketball or golf? So far I would probably say basketball. Story there is though: golf will be there in my life long after I can't run the court so it probably will win out in the long run.

The Day the Laughter Died | Artie Lange | Daily Blog for the Baby Gorilla

Artie lost it today and for some weird reason it also has really bothered me. I just really hope he gets help and gets things figured out.

“The EPA’s failure to act in the face of these incontestable dangers is a shameful dereliction of duty,” said Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley.

Simply depressing.
