Warming could worsen inland storms - Climate Change - MSNBC.com

Warming could worsen inland storms - Climate Change - MSNBC.com: "And when that happens, watch out. 'The strongest thunderstorms, the strongest severe storms and tornadoes are likely to happen more often and be stronger,' Del Genio said Thursday from his office at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York. The paper he co-authored was published online this month in the journal Geophysical Research Letters."

I appreciate good, scientific research as much as the next guy but doesn't this just feel true from what we have seen so far?

Love,
I think your golf instructor was right about at least one golfer – what an absolute class act. The video interview is the most telling I think especially that he gives away all his red shirts (his customary color he wears on Sundays when golf tourneys are decided) to charity.

I guess my overriding point to your golf instructor and his point would be that generally the game of golf does foster more civility than other sports due to the long tradition, etc., but to paint anything with one brush can create problems because there are exceptions to the rules all over the place and the devil is in the details. For instance, a hero of mine in baseball is Carlos Delgado. I can’t tell you what position he plays or even what team he currently plays for, but he took the very tough stand of going into the dugout or turning around or something during the national anthem a season or two ago to protest the Iraq war. It was a silent protest that I personally probably wouldn’t do in his position, but for the very fact that he stood up for something he believed in and obviously sacrificed endorsement dollars and personal exposure I salute him.

Now, on the other hand, I would not currently place people like Tiger or Michael Jordan in my ‘hero’ category because frankly I don’t think they do as much as they could to perhaps promote and bring light to their own personal causes (we all have them I am sure) but I respect them very much for being good sportsmen and conducting themselves well on the sporting field.

Mealy mouth stance? Yea, probably, but suffice it to say that to me painting any one sport as better than another for this or that reason ignores perhaps the true reality of what sports are and what they can represent.

ESPN - TrueHoop

ESPN - TrueHoop

Is pick up hoop dying?

Yes.

Lotsa reasons why (most found in the comments) including that which rccp writes of: that everyone thinks they are MJ and are too cool to pass, play defense or play the game and get a little sweaty. But, and let me be honest here, the courts are not that welcoming an environment these days for a lot of reasons.

Anyway, back to work. Play with your own balls is what I say.

I got to see 300 last night which was a great movie however I was commenting to my wife the concerns that some people had about the possible propaganda nature of the film. Personally I found the whole use of the word 'freedom' and what not a little heavy handed in the film, but perhaps it was that way in history I thought to myself.

Given this I watched the feature-ette or whatever they call it after the film about how 300 tracked with history. And wouldn't you know it one of the first people interviewed is VDH, my uncle's very favorite. 'He's so smart like me' as he bats his eyelashes I assume. Seemed to pretty much seal the deal but I suppose I will actually read the shit I just linked to to verify my beliefs, but to keep up with the trend of the day I don't think I am going to let any 'facts' get in the way of my beliefs ala Colbert.

ESPN - TrueHoop: "That's taking dead aim. That's staying with it."

A little about Lebron, a little about Tiger and a lot about how to do well at their games (and for now they are their games).

Talking Points Memo

Its a good point. These folks should be thanked for their great reporting on the attorney scandal and their hand in getting the liar out of our onetime hallowed halls. There is so much muck Josh and Co. - keep up the good work and get yourself some more rakes.

Sear and Rude Jude, from Shade45, you are awesome. I hope 60 minutes was listening because their stupid show this weekend about 'stop snitchin' and whatnot was terrible - yours was the better opinion and thank you. To recap and to paraphrase:

'There is no hood etiquette - there is looking out for yourself and trying to do your best to help other people.'

ANGEL CABRERA: I missed my putt for a 9."

I haven't thought through all the ramifications, but to avoid an Iraq situation again in the future is it safe to say that for war to be declared that half of Congress' and at least one Presidential kin must be on the front lines? This may provoke more debate and thought?

It's so beautiful - we should do more to protect it [us].

Stay tuned for a pic of the big swing.

ESPN - Wojciechowski: Bonds has record but it's broken

Ok, I agree with some of this and let me be honest by saying that I am conflicted about this whole situation but the reality is that if Mr. Wojciechowski's (damn, now my fingers are tired) peers were getting Pulitzers and shit loads of dough and he found out that they were taking a pill or applying cream to get this money and accolades do you think he wouldn't get into the pill or cream?

ESPN.com - Waging war amid shadows: The saga of a Bonds jersey: "damn, scoop's says one thing and the internet's jumpin' callin' him racist... black ppl callin' him an embarrassment to the community... that's kinda sad, because what he says is correct- there is an excellent E-ticket article about how the ATL is dealing with the Vick indictment. yo white people, why do you watch sports if you so openly hate black people? there's some weird fetish going on-"

Ah well, at least the article promoted such a positive, intelligent discussion. I take back my earlier comment.

U.N.: Record extreme weather in '07 - Climate Change - MSNBC.com: "The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a U.N. umbrella group of hundreds of experts, has noted an increasing trend in extreme weather events over the past 50 years and said irregular patterns are likely to intensify."

Extremes outdoors and extremes within too? Hmmm... maybe we are connected in more ways than we want to admit to this spinning blue ball? Maybe she (we) deserve better?

Barry, please don't hit one tonight. Wait... just one more... night... please. I will be there then.

I am not sure what I feel about this whole situation, but I will say that my feelings gravitate to: don't hate the player hate the game. On the other hand you have done nothing for yourself in this by acting like such a dick. On the third hand I do have to agree and have some respect for you in that you are just looking to protect your's and your family's privacy in an era where our stupid media focus so much on you and yours and not the people who are, like, important and may have crunkled up our Constitution and used it to wipe his own ass after shooting his friend in the face for all I know.

Anyway, my point is I don't know what the fuck to think but I do know I want to be there for 756.

Its weird how they come back to you all of a sudden eh? The one last night, that I just remembered, was me getting my first hole in one on a pretty easy hole but it was funny because I hit it past the hole a ways and then it rolled back into the hole. Only in dreams would a ball have come back like mine did last night.

Man, I hope it is really coming for me soon.

The closest I have gotten so far, if you dear reader will allow me to bore you a bit, has really been probably about a foot to two feet. I will say I got very close to my second eagle (an ugly cousin to the hole in one) recently on a dog leg par four where I cut the corner and put my second shot a cunts hair away from the vagine'.
