Where have you gone George Washington?
He wasn’t the greatest guy though right? We all know that now- I think they even knew it then. Since his time though we have piled layer upon layer of complexity and money and difficulty upon ourselves and our views of the world. I wonder where it will stop. I hope it doesn’t stop in a bad way.
These days we even use idiot sons of assholes, to paraphrase NOFX, and Terminators to cover up what is really going down don’t we? We all got covers and can’t be honest with each other, let alone ourselves. We use covers of ‘against abortion’ or ‘no blood for oil’ to make us feel more moral and more right, but as Americans, where have we gone? We like to separate ourselves out these days and think we are distinct from this guy or that guy, but as a collective and as God sees us I am sure- what are we? There are no covers for His eyes eh?
